New Democrats will fix healthcare by hiring 35,000 nurses by 2030, improving working conditions, and ending the use of costly private agencies.

Guarantee safe nurse-patient ratios across healthcare settings
Tie new federal health funding to real hiring and retention strategies
End the $1.5 billion drain to private nursing agencies and reinvest in public healthcare teams
Fast-track accreditation for internationally educated and U.S. nurses
Pay student nurses during clinical training and recognize the work of 780,000 nurses and PSWs with a $5,000 Canadian Healthcare Workers Tax Credit
Pharmacare for Canadians
In the first budget, the NDP will fight to launch universal pharmacare, securing free diabetes medication and birth control to every province and territory—expanding to cover essential medicines by year’s end.
